NSSI Provides Savings for Safer Iowa Playgrounds
The National Safe Surfacing
Initiative (NSSI) has just announced that its supplier of playground safety
products, Welch Products, has just made a special purchase of finely ground
rubber from Greenman Technologies. Because of the lower cost of doing business
with this local supplier, Welch Products will pass savings on to the NSSI for
its playground surfacing customers in the state of Iowa.
"The savings is specifically
for Iowa Schools and for a limited time," said Bruce Boland CEO of Welch
Products. "We want to show our
appreciation to the State of Iowa for its support of our program through three
years of research that has yielded excellent results for Iowa school children."
Rubber supplier, Greenman
Technologies, has also received support from the Iowa DNR to assist with the
purchase of equipment that will more efficiently grind rubber to Welch
Products' exacting specifications.
Boland continued, "It just makes sense for our two companies to work
together to payback Iowa taxpayers in the state that has been so supportive of
our efforts."
From January 1st
through March 31st, the NSSI will pass savings of 10% to 15% on to
schools that purchase DuroMat Extended Life™ playground safety tiles during the
promotion period.
Tiles, purchased between
January 1st and March 31st that are delivered between
April 1st and December 31st, 2006, will receive a 10%
savings.
Schools that accept delivery
on or before March 31st, 2006, will receive an additional 5% savings
for a total of 15% savings.
The DuroMat Extended Life™ playground safety tiles were
the focus of a three year study by the Iowa Legislature to test whether
playground safety tiles, made with Welch's patented manufacturing process,
could actually prevent serious injuries to children when compared with
traditional loose fill surfacing such as woodchips and pea-gravel. In a
report to the Iowa Legislature, the National Program for Playground Safety at
the University of Northern Iowa concluded that the combination of
Welch-manufactured tiles with supervisory training resulted in a 75-percent
reduction in serious injuries.
